Annual Bible Reading: 'Les Voix de la Bible', May 20th-23rd

les voix de la bibleThe 4-day continuous Bible reading Festival 'Les Voix de la Bible' will take place in Périgueux cathedral in May, when (over four days, from 7pm on Monday 20th to 7pm on Thurs 23rd May) books of the Bible will be read non-stop by many volunteer readers including members of our Chaplaincy. All are welcome to attend the opening and closing ceremonies at 19:00.

The theme this year is ‘Unity’: within ourselves, unity between ourselves and unity with God; the global nature of unity...

The festival is organised by the Périgueux Christian Council, of which the Chaplaincy is a member. There will also be several informal talks in French. Do come along and listen, or sign up to read, to be a part of this moving spiritual experience. Watch this space for more details to come.

As we journey with the Desert Mothers & each other, we will explore different ways to enrich our everyday lives.

Oak Hall Expeditions: Travel to Jerusalem

oak hall expeditionsLinked with my ‘Home Church’ back in the UK is a Christian Holiday company, called Oak Hall expeditions which offers a range of holidays, all over the world, with a Christian message. But by far the most popular of the summer trips is the Bible Study Tours of Israel.

The help of volunteers helps make these trips as accessible as possible, and I am such a volunteer. Trips are divided between time in Jerusalem, where we will stay within short walking distance of the Old City, and Galilee, where we will stay on the shores of the lake; with an overnight stop in Bethlehem in between.

Activities include visiting Old and New Testament sites, a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee, and swimming in the Dead Sea, and evening talks by the accompanying Speaker on a biblical subject (this year I believe my speaker will be doing a study on Mark’s Gospel). The Speaker will also lead us in morning prayers, which in Galilee will be on the edge of the lake as the sun rises; a truly amazing experience.
