How to get here and information on parking

shuttle to churchParking in Upper Limeuil is only available for residents and those with limited mobility. Please use the new parking area on the route des Crêtes, the other side of the arch at the top of the village and only a short walk from the church – directions are as follows:

Coming from Limeuil, take a left turn (or from Le Bugue, about 1km from D703, take a right turn) 'Route des Cretes/ Queyrelevat/ Les Merles/ Les Fosses'. Drive up the hill and then take a left fork  'Le Campet/ La Bourgonnie/ La Rouquette/ Pecabrier/ Piquette’, following this road until you come into the outskirts of Limeuil - when the archway into the top of the village comes into view, the parking is signposted to the right into the field, then you can just walk through the archway and down to the church.

For those with mobility issues, we will aim to provide a shuttle service from outside the School on the main Limeuil-Le Bugue road – please let us know in advance if you wish to use this service (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Welcome to Saint Catherine's, Limeuil, at the top of the hill

limeuilWelcome to St Catherine’s Church, Limeuil (24510), one of a number of English-speaking Anglican congregations in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region. The village of Limeuil is at the confluence of the Vézère and the Dordogne rivers, between Sarlat and Bergerac, and Ste. Catherine’s Church is located in Limeuil Haut, near the château, at the top of the hill. There has been an English-speaking Anglican congregation in Limeuil for over 30 years, initially at Chapelle Ste. Martin, before moving into the bigger church at the top of the village.

Our church family are mostly British expatriates, drawn from a variety of church backgrounds and our services reflect that diversity. Church of England forms of worship are used for all services.

Apart from Sundays, a number of us meet regularly for Bible study & prayer; we take part in the Chaplaincy prayer chain; we have bring & share lunches; and we have a lively music influence; as well as regular fundraising events and other social occasions – usually involving food!

Music at St Catherine’s tends to be a mixture of old and new. The ‘St Catherine’s singers’ rehearse together for Easter, Harvest, Remembrance and Carol services, as well as contributing to our Sunday services on a regular basis.

Bring & Share lunches

Sharing a meal together is an important part of our fellowship and bring and share lunches are held at different times throughout the year. This is a chance to come and share a simple meal - if you are able to bring along a simple dish that can be shared between friends that’s fine, but if not, come along anyway - there’s always more than enough food to go round!  Bread and wine is provided.

Events

Over the years, we have enjoyed a variety of events, primarily to raise money for our nominated charities, but also to have an opportunity to share fellowship and invite friends to join us. Quiz evenings and Ceilidhs, together with our annual Jazz evenings have been particularly popular, with wonderful food throughout, and fantastic live music at the latter. And it’s always lovely to have extra visitors at all the major festivals – Easter, Harvest, Remembrance and Christmas Carols.

Come Dine with Me

These supper evenings have proved a popular way of raising money for our nominated charities and - why not think about hosting a themed evening and inviting church family and friends? Please speak to anyone on the Committee if you might be interested in either hosting or attending an event.

Thy Kingdom Come: global wave of prayer

thy kingdom comeThy Kingdom Come is an annual global prayer movement, which invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension and Pentecost, for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. What started out as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in 2016 to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.

The hope is that:

People will commit to pray with God’s world-wide family - as a church, individually or as a family.

People will be empowered through prayer by the Holy Spirit, finding new confidence to be witnesses for Jesus Christ.

News

Looking back...

We had a lovely time at the end of March when a number of us met at the Salle des Fetes in Le Coux and Sheila Campbell led us in a few ceilidh dances, interspersed with some poetry recitals etc. and a delicious meal prepared by Anne Penfold. The total raised on the evening was 475 €, to be shared between our charities, Resto du Coeur and Mercy Ships.

Our Easter reflections began with Palm Sunday Praise, followed by a Communion service on Maundy Thursday led by our Chaplain. The performance of ‘Stainer’s Crucifixion’ on Good Friday afternoon was well attended and all present found it to be a moving experience, with beautiful solos, dramatic readings and fabulous choral singing. Finally, Easter Sunday Communion was a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus - “He is not here; he has risen …”.

Then, at the end of April, Anne Penfold led her final service with us at Limeuil before she returns to the UK permanently early in May – we sent her off with a lovely hamper of Perigordian goodies and a photo-book of memories. Following the service, we held a bring & share lunch and it was great to have so many friends join us in giving Anne a good send off … but how we will miss her!

Our Charities

Fundraising for our church

Since 1998 the Chaplaincy has been self-supporting financially. We are grateful to all those who support the ministry at St Catherine’s and the wider Chaplaincy so faithfully. Please do consider how you can best help us achieve the monies that are needed to keep the work of the Chaplaincy – each year our church community aims to contribute in the region of 30,000 €.

If you would like to know more about how to contribute, our Treasurer would be glad to guide you through the most effective ways of giving – speak with Gill Sweetman, tel: 05 53 73 13 59 email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Charities we support

Throughout the year, we also organise fundraising events to raise monies for the various charities we support, donating the funds through our sister association, Chap-Aid, click here to visit the website:

 mercy ships

The three pillars of action of Mercy Ships are to operate, train and renovate, contributing to the general humanitarian mission of supporting and strengthening health systems in African countries. Our vision is to realistically restore health and dignity to people in need.

 restos du coeur

Resto du Coeur, the local food bank provides food throughout the year for the needy. The Le Bugue centre serves many people living on their own, so the need is for small tins, and 1-portion meals. There is a basket at the back of the church to collect donated items. If you would prefer to donate funds for a shopping trip, please contact Amy Owensmith, tel: 06 07 04 07 77 email: This email address is being protected from spambots. The Church of Ste Catherine and the village of Limeuil are just north of the confluence of the Vézère and the Dordogne rivers, between Sarlat and Bergerac. The church is located in upper Limeuil (Limeuil Haut), near the château.

Our membersare drawn from the east and central Dordogne. The congregation has been meeting since 1987 in Limeuil, formally at the Chapelle St Martin, but for the last 14 years at the Church of Ste Catherine in Limeuil Haut.

Church of England forms of worship are used for all services.  Congregations of over 50 are usual throughout the year, growing into the 100s for major festivals.  We are lucky to have a choir director and a good-sized choir, which enhance the services at major festivals and Evensong each month.
