Welcome to Saint Catherine's, Limeuil, at the top of the hill
Welcome to St Catherine’s Church, Limeuil (24510), one of a number of English-speaking Anglican congregations in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region. The village of Limeuil is at the confluence of the Vézère and the Dordogne rivers, between Sarlat and Bergerac, and Ste. Catherine’s Church is located in Limeuil Haut, near the château, at the top of the hill. There has been an English-speaking Anglican congregation in Limeuil for over 30 years, initially at Chapelle Ste. Martin, before moving into the bigger church at the top of the village.
Our church family are mostly British expatriates, drawn from a variety of church backgrounds and our services reflect that diversity. Church of England forms of worship are used for all services.
Apart from Sundays, a number of us meet regularly for Bible study & prayer; we take part in the Chaplaincy prayer chain; we have bring & share lunches; and we have a lively music influence; as well as regular fundraising events and other social occasions – usually involving food!
Music at St Catherine’s tends to be a mixture of old and new and the ‘St Catherine’s singers’ rehearse together for Christmas, Easter, etc. as well as contributing to our Sunday services on a regular basis.
How to get here and information on parking
Parking in Upper Limeuil is only available for residents and those with limited mobility. Please use the new parking area on the route des Crêtes, the other side of the arch at the top of the village and only a short walk from the church – directions are as follows:
Coming from Limeuil, take a left turn (or from Le Bugue, about 1km from D703, take a right turn) ‘Route des Cretes/ Queyrelevat/ Les Merles/ Les Fosses’. Drive up the hill and then take a left fork ‘Le Campet/ La Bourgonnie/ La Rouquette/ Pecabrier/ Piquette’, following this road until you come into the outskirts of Limeuil – when the archway into the top of the village comes into view, the parking is signposted to the right into the field, then you can just walk through the archway and down to the church.
For those with mobility issues, we will aim to provide a shuttle service from outside the School on the main Limeuil-Le Bugue road – please let us know in advance if you wish to use this service (heathfieldfamily@gmail.com).
Grateful for our church family - walking together with Christ
Bring & Share lunches
Sharing a meal together is an important part of our fellowship and bring and share lunches are held at different times throughout the year. This is a chance to come and share a simple meal – if you are able to bring along a simple dish that can be shared between friends that’s fine, but if not, come along anyway – there’s always more than enough food to go round! Bread and wine is provided.
Home group & Bible study
We encourage church members to meet for prayer and Bible study together.
The Limeuil Bible study home group meets twice a month in different homes, usually followed by a bring & share lunch.
For details about where we are meeting and what we are studying, contact Linda Heathfield: heathfieldfamily@gmail.com
Events
… ‘Come dine with me’ supper evenings, afternoon teas, coffee mornings and Quiz evenings, together with other live musical events, have been particularly popular, with wonderful food throughout.
And it’s always lovely to have extra visitors at all the major festivals – Easter, Harvest, Remembrance and Christmas Carols.
Prayer ministry
If you would like to receive the prayer-chain email, listing those who have requested prayer, or if you would like to be added to the list, or give an update, please contact our prayer chain coordinator: tournesol244@gmail.com
Charities we support
We have recently adopted a new overseas Charity … Mission Direct is a small UK-based Christian charity, which aims to enable everyday people to make a practical and lasting difference to some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Long-term commitments are made to carefully-chosen partners in countries all over the world. Volunteers are equipped to join short overseas trips – building homes, schools/classrooms, hospitals and rescue centres etc.
Resto du Coeur, the local food bank provides food throughout the year for the needy. The Le Bugue centre serves many people living on their own, so the need is for small tins, and 1-portion meals. There is a basket at the back of the church to collect donated items. If you would prefer to donate funds for a shopping trip, please contact: 06 07 04 07 77 email: midnightshadow13@gmail.com.
The Chaplaincy-wide Chap-Aid Charity Auction was started in Sept 2023, and along with online sales (via Vinted and LeBonCoin started in Jan 2024) have raised 275 € for the Henry Henderson Project in Malawi. Chaplaincy Safeguarding Policy
Here at St Catherine’s, we are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and we adhere to the Chaplaincy Safeguarding Policy which can be found here.
