Welcome to the Chaplaincy of Aquitaine
The Chaplaincy of Aquitaine is situated in an area steeped in history that is reflected in the architecture of its churches and chateaux. Covering an area that takes in the Gironde, Dordogne and Lot et Garonne, the Chaplaincy is well placed to provide couples with a suitable location for their wedding .
Weddings can take place in a variety of venues other than in one of the many churches used in the Chaplaincy. Many couples choose to use a chapel situated in a chateau whilst others may choose a less formal setting, such as a garden, for their special event.
The wedding service
Making promises to one another before God is an important step, made all the more special because it is made in the company of family and friends. The Chaplain is there to make sure the wedding service is a meaningful experience that will live on in the memory long after the actual event.
The Chaplain or one of our associate ministers will meet with the couple to discuss the details of what will happen during the ceremony. The form of service used is either the Marriage Service (Common Worship) or the form of Prayer and Dedication after a Civil Marriage. It is important to note that a religious service held in France must be preceded by a legal /civil marriage ceremony, which can be held in the couple’s country of residence, or in a French commune in which there is a family residence.
Fees
The current fee for a wedding is €550 plus any travel expenses incurred. In addition if a church venue is used, we suggest making a donation of thanks to the local Roman Catholic parish for giving permission to use the church (generally 100 – 200€). We do not require a deposit, and ask for payment 2-3 months before the wedding.
For an additional fee (plus expenses) arrangements can be made for an organist and a choir. All charges should be agreed when initial enquiries are made and payments should be made at least three weeks before the wedding.
